Solid, polished, and undeniably catchy, The Boroughs' self-titled CD will appeal to snobby hipsters and tween Green Day fans alike. Tight rock with a splash of bubblegum punk, this slick disc is well thought out and surprisingly consistent. I was impressed by how well structured the songs are – The Boroughs know what they're doing. Memorable and to the point, they pull you in right away. It's nothing groundbreaking, but who cares? They do melodic rock well, and it's a lot of fun to listen to. The only thing I think they could improve on is the vocals – they were going for a gravely punk sound, but it doesn't quite work. It sounds slightly out of tune, but not quite out of tune enough to pass as rough grunge vocals.

My favorite tracks on this record are "Another Sad Song," which is moody and melodic, and the infectious headbanger "MRI." However, the momentum keeps up throughout the disc, so if you enjoy one track, you'll like all of them. It loses a little bit of steam at the end with a few slower cuts (like the aptly titled "Pussin' Out"), but they're really not bad – just not quite as good as the other material.

Overall, I think they did a great job, especially since this is their first full length album. They've been getting a lot of positive attention since they formed 5 years ago, and I expect to hear more good things from them in the future. Keep an eye on The Boroughs – they're a band to watch.
